If the casinos and other gambling places would be legalised in India, It could regulate an informal industry worth Rs. 300,000 crore and also bring in crores of revenue as estimated.

India's top law panel is considering the legalisation of the casinos, gambling and sports betting and the related places. Though the Law Commission of India is yet to make up its mind and the act of gambling is under serious construction.

Last year, The Supreme Court of India asked the Law Commission to study the possibility of legalising the betting, gambing and casinos in India.

On the other hand, Gambling on the internet is really hard to stop and a law will mean regulating the sector and allowing the casinos and betting on cricket and other sports.

This is not the first time that the top law panel has discussed the feasibility of legalising gambling in India.

India has already worked with the idea of legalizing sports betting, but the legislature has yet to act on it. The country’s gambling market is governed by the Public Gaming Act 1867, which has been the focus of modernization for many gaming industry stakeholders.

However, the final decision is left with the Parliament to legalise the casinos and sports gambling in India because the issue involves the enactment of a law which is a matter of examining by the Law Commission and the Government of India.

“It (betting and gambling) is already happening through the internet and it is hard to stop in the absence of an updated law,” a member of the commission said.
