Internship Details
During this period the intern regularly attended trial proceedings at the Tiz Hazari District Court and other trial courts in Delhi. She also witnessed arbitration proceedings at The Indian Council for Arbitration. She researched on various aspects of procedural and substantial law namely- The Code of Civil Procedure 1908, The Limitations Act, 1963, Interest Act 1968, The Arbitration Act of 1940 &1996, The Constitution of India 1950.

The internship was very relevant for a first year law student as it provided more exposure to the realities of law than any NGO could. The internship enabled the intern to learn legal drafting and legal research, very important skills for a law student to possess. It also helps the students to acquaint themselves with the procedure of how a plaint is filed and how a trial takes place. It was overall an amazing experience. Although the actual way in which the District Courts function is a little disillusioning, after the grandiose expectations students develop in the comfort of the elitist jargon that law school introduces them to, I feel that this reality check is very important for a student to become a successful lawyer. An internship at the district court is a must have in the repertoire of work experience to ensure holistic growth. The weightage it has in the curriculum vitae doesn’t hurt either!
